Foreign Language Department Course Descriptions
Spanish Year 1
This is the beginner's Spanish course. In this class a wide variety of grammatical / verbal structures and thematic vocabulary will be covered in Spanish through interactive and student-centered communicative and written activities.
Spanish Year 2
This course is designed to provide students with an overview of Spanish grammar, vocabulary, expressions and conversational skills, building upon skills learned in Spanish Year I - (Spanish 1/2). This course will introduce students to the use of new verb structures, such as preterit tense of regular and irregular verbs, other forms of past tense, future, conditional tenses and other common verbal and grammatical structures. This course will provide students with interactive and student-centered learning opportunities in speaking, reading, listening and writing in the target language. Students will foster an appreciation of the Spanish language and culture.
Spanish Year 3
This course will place emphasis on the further advancement of (4) critical skills, in order to prepare our students for the Comprehensive Regents Examination in Spanish, to be taken in June 2013. These skills include: speaking / oral expression, listening / auditory skills, reading and writing. This course will provide students with an extensive and detailed review and practice of grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension and sentence structure in the target language. This course will further build upon students’ mastery of Spanish Years I and II (Spanish 1-4). Supplemental materials such as past Regents Exams, Spanish reading material / short stories and handouts on grammar, syntax and vocabulary will be utilized to complete the needs of this course.
